Unlike mass-produced puzzle boxes that use glued assemblies or veneers, this box is carved from a single block of Zebrawood. The dramatic striped grain flows uninterrupted around all four sides, creating a visual effect that's almost hypnotic. No two pieces of Zebrawood are alike, so each puzzle box is completely unique.
The puzzle element is what makes this box special. The lid doesn't simply lift offâyou must discover the secret. It might be a hidden sliding panel, a magnetic catch, a twist mechanism, or a sequence of movements. I design each puzzle differently, so even I can't tell you exactly how yours will open without seeing it again. That's part of the magic.

Every Treasure Puzzle Box is crafted entirely by hand in my Hebden Bridge workshop. I work with Zebrawoodâan exotic African hardwood known for its dramatic striped grainâsourcing it from sustainable suppliers. The wood is dense and heavy, with natural oils that give it a beautiful sheen when polished.
Creating a puzzle box is one of the most challenging forms of woodworking. The mechanism must work perfectly but remain invisible. The hollow interior must be carved out without breaking through the walls. The lid must fit precisely but still move when the puzzle is solved. It takes patience, precision, and a lot of test-fits. But the result is something truly specialâa box that's as much a conversation piece as it is functional storage.
That's the fun part! Each box has a different hidden mechanism. It might slide, twist, press, or require a sequence. I don't include instructionsâdiscovering the secret is part of the experience. But if you're truly stuck, contact me and I'll give you a hint.
Yes. Each box starts as a single solid block of Zebrawood. I carve out the interior and create the mechanism without cutting the box into separate pieces (except for the lid, depending on the design). The continuous grain around the box is proof of this.
Absolutely. I post all my handcrafted gifts anywhere in the UK using Royal Mail. Each box is carefully wrapped to ensure it arrives safely. Delivery typically takes 3-5 working days.
