A Guardian, Not a Threat

Not all who wander are welcome. This "Curse Box," hand-sculpted from the bold, striking grains of Zebrawood and the steadfast strength of Oak, features a coiled serpent—the ultimate ancient symbol of rebirth and fierce protection. In this tradition, the "curse" is not for the owner, but for the ill-fortune or negative energy that dares to approach your treasures. The snake stands as a silent, vigilant sentinel, ensuring that whatever you place inside is shielded by a bond that cannot be broken. It is a powerful omen of boundaries, strength, and the sacred right to keep what is yours, yours.

For centuries, the serpent has been revered across cultures—from Celtic mythology to ancient Egyptian symbolism—as a creature of transformation, healing, and protection. This box channels that energy. It's not about causing harm; it's about creating a safe, protected space for the things that matter most to you.

Crafted from Zebrawood and Oak

Zebrawood is one of nature's most dramatic timbers—its bold, striped pattern makes each box instantly recognisable. Paired with the strength and stability of Oak, this box is built to last for generations. The serpent is carved in relief, wrapping around the lid or body of the box depending on the design. Every scale is shaped by hand, every curve considered.

The finish is a protective varnish that enhances the natural colours while providing durability. Open the box and you'll find a dark-stained interior—a shadowy sanctuary for whatever you choose to protect. Whether it's jewellery, keepsakes, crystals, or important documents, this box will keep them safe.

Made in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire

Every Curse Box is carved entirely by hand in my Hebden Bridge workshop. I start with rough-sawn timber, selecting pieces with the most striking grain patterns. The serpent design is sketched directly onto the wood, then carved using a combination of hand tools and my trusted bandsaw. Sanding takes hours—every scale needs individual attention to ensure smooth, comfortable edges.

These boxes are conversation pieces. Display one on your desk, bookshelf, or altar and watch people's reactions. They're drawn to the serpent, curious about its meaning, fascinated by the craftsmanship. It's a box that tells a story before anyone even opens it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this really a "curse" box?

The name is symbolic, not literal. The "curse" refers to warding off negative energy or ill fortune—not harming anyone. The serpent is a guardian, protecting whatever you place inside. Think of it as a protective talisman rather than anything sinister.

Are these really handmade?

Yes—every single one. I carve each box by hand in my Hebden Bridge workshop. The serpent design is drawn and carved individually, so no two boxes are exactly alike. Each one takes several days to complete.

Do you post these UK-wide?

Absolutely. I post all my handcrafted gifts anywhere in the UK using Royal Mail. Each box is carefully wrapped to ensure it arrives safely. Delivery typically takes 3-5 working days.

What can I store in it?

Anything you want to keep safe or protected—jewellery, keepsakes, crystals, tarot cards, important documents, or even just as a decorative object. The dark-stained interior adds to the mysterious feel.

What's your returns policy?

Under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations, you have 14 days to cancel your order after receiving an item. Items must be returned in original condition, and you cover return postage unless the item is faulty. See our full Returns Policy for details.
