Cut from wood, painted by hand, these one-of-a-kind beautiful butterflies are perfect for hanging in front of a window. When the sunlight streams through, the painted wings glow—casting soft, colourful shadows into your room. They bring the feeling of a summer meadow indoors, no matter the season outside.
Each butterfly is cut from sustainably sourced timber, then hand-painted with acrylics in bright, cheerful colours. The reverse side is also painted (often a complementary shade), so they look beautiful from every angle. Add a piece of thread or fishing line, hang them in a sunny spot, and watch them dance in the breeze.
These butterflies are sold as a set of four, each one different. You might receive pink and purple wings, blue and green, yellow and orange—I paint intuitively, responding to the wood and the mood of the day. No two sets are ever identical, which means you're getting something truly unique.
The wings are carefully shaped to suggest different butterfly species—swallowtails, monarchs, fritillaries—but always with my own artistic interpretation. They're not scientifically accurate; they're cheerful, whimsical, and full of character. Children love them, adults admire them, and everyone smiles when the sun catches their colours.
Every butterfly is cut, sanded, and painted by hand in my Hebden Bridge workshop. I start by tracing the wing shapes onto timber, cut them out with a scroll saw (the same one you see in my workshop photos), then spend hours sanding every edge until smooth. Then comes the painting—layer after layer of colour, sealed with a protective varnish so they'll last for years.
These butterflies make wonderful gifts for nature lovers, colourful additions to a nursery or child's bedroom, or simply a little piece of joy for your own home. Hang them singly or as a fluttering cluster. Either way, they'll bring warmth and colour to your space.
Each set is unique. I paint intuitively, so you might receive bright pinks and purples, soft blues and greens, warm yellows and oranges, or a mix of everything. If you have a colour preference, mention it in the order notes and I'll do my best to accommodate.

Use thin thread, fishing line, or clear beading elastic. Tie one end around the butterfly's body (there's a small groove or hole depending on the design) and the other end to a curtain rail, hook, or branch. Hang them at different heights for a natural fluttering effect.
Absolutely. I post all my handcrafted gifts anywhere in the UK using Royal Mail. Each butterfly is carefully wrapped to ensure it arrives safely. Delivery typically takes 3-5 working days.
